Super simple
I love time. Applications should save more time than they consume. It’s a simple equation, but not everyone can handle it. Design is often about adjusting your own mindset to accept that certain things (or lack thereof) are totally fine, not about introducing new stuff.
I still regard the UI designer of a hammer the greatest of them all. We don’t need a manual to use a hammer, but there’s nothing in a hammer that is supposed to teach us how to build a house with it.
Doability
We should talk about doability over usability. Software is a mean, not an end, to the doer. The doer doesn’t want new tools, the doer wants to get the job done.
Interaction happens with two separate entities. We don’t want to interact, we want to eliminate that gap altogether. Designers and developers care about a lot of stuff that doers don’t, and it’s our job to be bossed around by them.
